Some interesting news from the Syfy Channel and it's new show 12 Monkeys. Syfy includes information on their Syfy Sync app that "is an app for your tablet or phone that delivers contextual "extras" that directly relate to what you are watching. It may be a behind-the-scenes video of the scene you just watched, a trivia quiz based on what you've seen, fun facts about the program or never before seen photos. Plus, it connects with your Facebook and Twitter accounts so you can chat about the show all the while."
But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Syfy and Philips have
partnered to create the first ever program synchronized lighting
experience with the pairing of Syfy Sync and the Philips hue connected
lighting system for the home. If you have the Phillips hue lighting system, the lights will change color and intensity based upon what is happening on the TV show. I find this to be a cool idea, although maybe a bit too "geeky" for most people. The advantage of the digital systems we now have is that we can create a virtual interactive environment. By controlling the room lighting to match the show, this seems like a cool first step. Of course you will need the Phillips system, which costs $199.00 for the "Starter Kit" that includes:
1 hue bridge & 3 light bulbs.
The system works with an app (download required) that lets you link and control up to 50 compatible wireless light bulbs (3 BR-30 light bulbs included) using an enabled mobile device. 3 included wireless, Internet-enabled LED light bulbs Display up to 16 million colors, from warm yellow-white to vibrant blue-white, so you can create an ideal lighting mood for a variety of scenarios.
Each additional light bulb costs $59.99, so it may take some time to get up to that 50 controlled light bulbs system, not to mention the $2,819.00!
The show itself is actually pretty good.
